Green Commerce aims at providing the retail sector with mechanisms of: information, access to knowledge, research and technology, achieving that the 3.5 million companies belonging to this sector have their own methodology to voluntarily start their "green policy”.
The project will develop a methodology (involvement of SMES) that will be recognized and managed at a European level and will allow the study and generation of a new knowledge (innovation) on the techniques and technologies the sector may use to be more respectful with the environment.

Main actions:
 
  • Training in Green Commerce (Do you Green Commerce?)
  • Implementation and Demonstration (Greening Commerce)
    • Development of a methodology for the diagnosis/Environmental evaluation of European retail companies.
    • Creation of a computer application, accessible via web, which will allow an Environmental self-evaluation for Small retailers.
    • Making of Environmental audits in 100 retail companies as a demonstrative measure.
    • Implementation and monitoring of improvements in Environmental management in 100 retail points of sale.
    • 2 local conferences on “Green Commerce” in Torrevieja and San Sebastian addressed to trade employees and local entrepreneurs.
    • Regional awareness campaign with a potential impact on 60.000 retail companies and 270.000 employees of the Valencia Region.
  • Comunication and Publication (Greening Commerce in Europe)
    • Development of a European communication plan on the “Green Commerce” commitment + design of a trademark.
    • Production of a video to present the project at a European level in 3 languages (Spanish, English and German).
    • Drawing up of the “Guide on Green Commerce commitment”.
    • Organization of the 1st European Conference on Green Commerce, to present “Green Commerce” among the main European agents in this sector.
    • Participation in European events: Green Week 2012.

To improve competitiveness for these micro-enterprises, especially by reducing energy costs through more efficient technologies, the promotion of energy certificates and the enactment of voluntary saving agreements.
To train and inform entrepreneurs and employees in techniques, knowledge and skills to implement environmental actions in their companies.
To make European consumers aware of the necessity to develop purchasing habits and consumption models which are respectful with the environment.
